Aniko of Place of My Taste fell in love with the happy and warm colors of the boho chic rooms that she found on Pinterest and wanted to recreate it. She didn’t want to spend too much money on buying the décor that she needed, so she turned to good ol’ DIY alternatives. Her first step was to add a dramatic accent wall to the room. She immediately thought, “What could have been better to add drama than a bold graphic stencil?” She laid out her vision with the help of a mood board – the boho chic style is definitely apparent when she puts it all together!

And that’s where we come in. Our Contempo Trellis Wall Stencil was the perfect choice for adding a bit of drama to her boho chic room. Let’s see how she did it:

Supplies:

Step 1: Placing the very first pattern in the right place is crucial. This sets the stage for how the entire repeated pattern will lay out and look. Aniko started at the ceiling line to stencil her first pattern. We also recommend starting in the middle of your wall and working outwards towards the edges.

Step 2: Then, Anika secured the stencil in place with painter’s tape.

Step 3: Aniko used her paint roller and made sure to use the “off-load” method to stencil the pattern. Off-loading means getting paint on your roller or stencil brush and then taking off most of the paint you put on onto a paper towel. This way, you will have the minimal amount of paint on your roller or brush. Stenciling with too much paint is the number one reason why bleeding occurs. Don’t let that be you!

Step 4: Step back, and enjoy the view!

To keep with the boho chic vibe, Aniko also added wood accents, an Ikea hacked TV stand, and pops of color with hanging plants. These simple home décor accessories along with the bold graphic stenciled wall gave the room a relaxed but polished look. This style is trending in interiors, and it’s great to know that you can get this look for a fraction of the cost of designer décor. When you can’t buy, just DIY!
