Stenciling Goes to the Dogs!

Stenciling Goes to the Dogs!

We all love to design spaces -- and some of these spaces will be shared with us by our furry friends. We firmly believe that any room, no matter how chic and beautiful, is enhanced by our faithful companions! They love being pampered and being taken care of as well as enjoying a clean and pretty place to rest their paws. We were tickled pink when we spied the luxe stenciled dog bed that our friend Amy Heywood of Playing Sublimely created for her dog, Mr. Darcy. [Note: LOVE the name!] Designing for pets has never been easier so let's talk a virtual walk over to Amy's house to see her dog-gone cute stenciling!

A destroyed dog bed inspires a unique stencil project
Painting and Stenciling with Chalk Paint decorative paint
Oh, Mr. Darcy has been a bad boy! That was the 15th bed Amy had purchased and had destroyed so she decided no mas -- it's stenciling to the rescue! She installed a sturdy MDF board as the base for the dog bed and crate that had been cut to the right size by her carpenter. She based it first with Provence Chalk Paint® decorative paint and then quickly followed that with Graphite Chalk Paint®.
Ideas for Unique Stencil Projects for Pets
Once the paint was fully dry, she positioned the lovely Donatella Damask Stencil in the center and did a creative stenciling technique: she sanded through the stencil with a dampened Scotch-Brite pad to distressed the Graphite Chalk Paint® and show the original Provence Chalk Paint® color and surface. She aged the results and applied a polyurethane topcoat to seal it. We also recommend the Annie Sloan Lacquer Floor Finish for great protection.  Her results are SO pretty and cool!  Know what else is cool? She filmed a quick video so you can see her technique!

It's PAWSOME! Here's Mr. Darcy, getting comfortable in his new posh and pretty digs!  By the way, as soon as she settled him in, Amy chanced upon her favorite heels...chewed to smithereens. [He looks like he knows about what she's about to discover, right?!]  Amy called it a "criminal act of injustice".  If you'd like to see the poor shoes and read more about her project, click on over to her Mr. Darcy Gets a New Bed project post. Does this get you all paws blazing with great stencil ideas? We hope so -- and be sure to share them with us!
