The perfect stencil for a beginner!

I have literally never stenciled anything and used this stencil and black creme paint to transform my mudroom and love the results! Definitely a fan of the "dry brush" method outlined in the tutorials, though I recommend a disposable plastic plate over papertowels which suck up a lot of paint.

I did all the large swaths and then tried to bend the stencil around corners and found it impossible not to get lots of smudges. In the end I cut down the stencil into smaller pieces (like a column of stars) to fit in the spaces I needed. I also wanted a look like wallpaper so lots of half stars. Initially, I tried to freehand the design = disaster. So I cut out a single star stencil and then penciled in what I needed. I then hand painted those in with impressive results.

Hello Maggie, so happy you loved your results! For future projects, please take a look at some tips we have for stenciling into corners and those hard to reach areas. You can find the video here: https://www.royaldesignstudio.com/blogs/stenciling-tips/wall-stencil-corners-edges. Thank you so much for sharing. -Royal Design Studio
