Bella Fresco Basics
Royal Design Studio is offering Bella Fresco glazes in three options: Clear, Pearl and Iridescent Gold.
Bella Fresco can be applied by brush, trowel or spray system. The most common application, and the one featured, is a positive application by sponge in random patterns that is then softened and "pulled" to create inherently organic areas of "movement".  The background for the stenciling shown here was accomplished simply by sponging Bella Fresco Gold Base (undiluted) over Ben Moore Night Shade and softening it with our new Flat Glazing Brush. It was then stenciled with our allover Elegancia pattern using Compiegne Gilt Creme. See the Gilty Stenciling technique for more ideas on stenciling with Gilt Creme.
All Bella Fresco glazes can be tinted with universal tints, acrylic colorants or even latex or metallic paints to the desired color depth. Bella Fresco requires very little colorant to achieve the desired color depth.
One of the key benefits of Bella Fresco is that you can easily control your open time according to your needs:
Use it straight for quick-drying layers that be second-coated almost immediately.
Add glaze or glaze extenders to Bella Fresco for more working time and softer effects.
Do large open wall and ceiling areas with ease by adding glaze to Bella Fresco and also rolling out a thin "bed coat" of glaze or water ahead of you in the areas you are working into.
Some more Bella Fresco facts:
-Bello Fresco goes far! Get up to 400 sq. ft. per quart and 1200 sq. ft. per gallon-even more when you add a scumble glaze or extender.
-Bella Fresco dries to a hard, durable finish for both interior and exterior. No topcoat is required.
-Apply over a well-sealed surface such as a Pearl or Satin finish 100% acrylic latex paint.
-Additional layers can be done quickly and produce additional richness and depth.
Ideal for creating soft fresco looks, marble and drifty ceiling "clouds".
-Bella Fresco Clear dries to a satin sheen. Use 16oz. flattening agent to a gallon to achieve a matte finish.
