Transitional spaces of the home –– like mudrooms, entry ways, and foyers –– should be where your home gives you a welcoming hug… Not an uninterested shrug! These “in-between” spaces are often cramped, cluttered, overlooked or simply uninteresting. Whether your own transitional spaces are meant for maximal or minimal function, they are a great place to experiment with grand design gestures. They can be the perfect place to take a risk, since the space is often tiny, narrow, or otherwise limited to big ideas in small doses. Just “passing through”? Make sure to check out the PRETTIEST mudrooms, foyers, and entryways decorated with Royal Design Studio Stencils…
“My mudroom is done and spoiler alert: it’s GREAT! The floor: it’s a showstopper! I’m so glad I took the time to paint it before I added in the rest of the pieces. It looks awesome. I used the Tumbling Blocks Stencil from Royal Design Studio. I am truly in love with this space.” – House Homemade
Oh hey, look what we found featured on Design Sponge! Design*Sponge says, “This entryway will wake you up in the BEST way possible - owner and designer Whitney J Decor went for maximalist vibes in her once plain entryway and we are loved the Tribal Batik Wall Stencil pattern from Royal Design Studio on the wall!”
Classic patterns and colors always make such a striking yet timeless combination in home decor. Stencil Star Rachael Goddard used the classic trellis pattern of our Moorish Trellis Wall Stencil on all her entry walls. This cool black, white and silver color scheme is a very chic way to welcome guests, don’t you think?
Looking for decorating change of pace? Designer Trapped in a Lawyer’s Body definitely was… Her foyer was beige, blah, and BORING. Can you relate? She finally said enough was enough and began planning out her foyer transformation. She wanted more color and bold pattern so a Large Modern Stencil from Royal Design Studio was the first choice that popped into her head. She says, “Y’all know I love color and pattern, right? So it should be no big surprise that I am a BIG fan of stencils. They can completely transform a wall without the commitment of wallpaper. I am 100% in love with it and it makes a HUGE impact for a tiny amount of money. Plus, if I ever change my mind, I don’t have to remove any wallpaper!” After a few short hours she now has an entry what welcomes guests with a bold “Hello!”
Crave Interiors has a beautiful boho modern midcentury home and found that our Tribal Batik Furniture Stencil would be a great way to upcycle this piece to match her style. What does this inspire you to stencil in your own home?
Simple Details wanted her entryway to make a ‘wild’ statement. She had her eye on a particular wallpaper until she found our animal print wall stencils. The wallpaper was not only pricey but cumbersome to apply. She loves how our Cheetah Spots Wall Stencil gave her foyer the unexpected, sassy wallpaper look at a fraction of the cost! ”I’m all about getting a high-end look for less and not having to remove wallpaper if I can avoid it!”
More blue hues, but this time in reverse colors. Talented high-end decorator David Hsueh designed this welcoming foyer accent wall with striking blues and our Large Lisboa Tile Stencil. Stenciling an accent wall like this is a great way to add a focal point to a room or entry way with a lot of style-and without spending a lot of money when you do it yourself.
Create a dramatic entryway and greet your guests with shining style with a metallic stenciled wall like Caroline Lizarraga did. The large-scale design of our Contempo Trellis Stencil in gold adds warmth and a touch of Art Deco glamour to the space.
@etwellons stenciled this wall with our Gatsby Glam Art Deco Wall Stencil and says, “This gorgeous entryway went from forgotten to focal point thanks to a little paint and planning. @royalstencils - you always steal my heart! Now that’s a way to welcome visitors!”
Our Opposites Attract Modern Tribal Wall Stencil elevates a modern room while infusing it with history and culture. This wall design creates the perfect backdrop for @saltandsundry’s trendy home decor.
All Things Thrifty solved a wood floor design dilemma for herself by using stencils. She had longed for a patterned entry floor rug but either found them too expensive or not quite the right size. Our Contempo Trellis Wall Stencil pattern came to the rescue! She was able to map out exactly the area she wanted to create her stenciled rug on the wood floor AND easily use the perfect colors, too -- and all within budget! Plus, it’s SUPER easy to clean!
@thefestivefarmhouse makes the most gorgeous entry way space using the Silk Road Suzani Wall Stencil. Now the walls have a pattern and depth that subtlety plays off her shabby chic and modern farmhouse decor.
“I love unexpected details. Our entrance hall got the high end look of wallpaper for a fraction of the cost.” @kacie_ruth loves how our Contempo Trellis Wall Stencil gave her home the finishing touch without breaking the bank. That’s the kind of transformation that we love!
A huge trend that we are seeing a lot of is doors painted in eye-popping colors. Masseria Chic painted this front door bright blue, but she also took it a step further and added gorgeous pattern to the entryway walls. The gray and white colors she used for our Silk Road Suzani Wall Stencil give the pattern contrast without competing with the blue door.
“WHAT FUN! Have to say this project was a blast. After pouring over the many Royal Design Studio Stencils (amazing by the way), the artist in me went for the drama with the Francesca Floral Wall Stencil. People are blown away when they see it... and the first thing they ask is "Can I touch it?!" My house is in a National Historic District and stenciling works so well for the look I was trying to achieve. I couldn't be more thrilled with the outcome.” – Carol Eberhardt
Jen Woodhouse stenciled a bench that now looks amazing! This DIY project highlights how easy it is to take a more traditional piece of furniture and make it modern with an unexpected color and geometric design. With the help of our African Plumes Furniture Stencil and navy and gold paint, Jen was able to create the art deco glam look she wanted for her foyer.
Sincerely, Sara D loves that her “room looks completely different thanks to a little paint – and a stencil!” It’s pretty easy to transform an entryway with stencil designs and a new color palette. For this DIY décor project, Sara chose to go with the Marrakech Medallion Wall Art Stencil because it mimicked the glass pattern on her doors. Repeating the pattern in a random allover manner brightens up the space with a custom wallpaper look.
Ohoh Blog is a fan of global chic patterns so when she found our Otomi Damask Wall Stencil, she knew it was the perfect choice in decorating the walls of her home in Mexico. Working with a colorful palette of oranges and greens, she transformed her “ohoh” accent wall to an entry way that would welcome guests with a worldly “hello”.
Living Savvy’s emerald green foyer takes on a more modern look with the classic design of our Contempo Trellis Wall Stencil. This pop of green is great for a part of the home that is so often overlooked.
The mud-room is one of the most active rooms in A Little Paint Therapy’s home and is used as the main point of entry & exit. They wanted to give this room a whimsical look using contrasting colors and a playful pattern. Lana decided to go with a classic black n’ white combination for our animal print wall stencils, transforming the mud-room into a cheerful entryway!
Mandy Fitz Art had a client that came to her to makeover their entry that was dark and felt a like cave. To make this space feel brighter and more welcoming for guests coming in the front door, she suggested light colored décor and a patterned accent wall. The client was already in love with Mandy’s own stenciled room that they immediately accepted her idea. They even used the same Spanish Lace Scallop Wall Stencil because all of our mylar stencils are reusable over and over!
@arianahoffmanartisans says, “This large scale modern grid pattern is absolutely glamorous in black and hite.” The graphic pattern only LOOKS like wallpaper (from every angle!), but it’s actually our Contempo Trellis Wall Stencil ;)
