Steps for a Furniture Stencil Transformation

Step 1: Start with a clean piece of furniture. Simple Green is a great overall cleaner and degreaser for furniture.

Step 2: Paint just the drawers with 2 coats of black latex paint and let dry.

Step 3: Measure to find the center of drawers and mark with pencil. Tape off areas that you don’t want to stencil. Begin with the pattern positioned in the center of each drawer.

Step 4: Use white paint to load and off-load a stencil brush. Be sure to remove excess paint on to paper towels by brushing in a circular motion to avoid paint bleed under the stencil.

Step 5: Use the same swirling motion to apply the paint through the stencil openings. Generally white paint over a dark color will require at least 2 passes of paint.

Step 6: Reposition the Tribal Batik pattern stencil to continue the pattern by aligning the pattern elements over previously stenciled elements. This gives you perfect stencil registration. Continue stenciling to complete the pattern on each drawer before moving to the next drawer.
