Debbie Hayes of My Patch of Blue Sky and Paint and Pattern always creates outstanding DIY projects using our stencils. We are continually WOW’ed with the creative ideas she has up her stenciling sleeves. Paint & Decorating Magazine, a publication dedicated to informing the paint and decorating community of trending styles and must-have decorative products, has fallen in love with these projects as well and featured 3 of them in their Decorative Finishing issue! Good job, Debbie!
Paint & Decorating says, “As homeowners and commercial designers look for new ways to create custom spaces, decorative finishes have become a popular way to add depth and texture. Previously considered a specialty product for high-end applications, today’s decorative finishing products are easier to use and more affordable than they used to be. Consumers are interested in custom-looking items that they can create themselves, and we see a variety of finishes growing in popularity among the DIY crowd.”
Let’s see what 3 DIY decorative finishing projects they are raving about…
To create a rustic luxe look in your home, we suggest blending a patina finish with a shiny metallic paint. Debbie used Modern Masters Metal Finishes Rust Patina products to finish this living room screen with a natural rusted surface. Then, to give it an upscale contemporary flair, she let our Esperanza Lace Tile Stencil shine with the help of Modern Masters metallic paint after giving the rust 2 finish coats. You could also consider using our Royal Stencil Creme paints as a perfect alternative. Be sure to check our recent How to Stencil post on Creating a Rust Patina Finish for yourself.
Reflective, soft, and with a hint of snow, Debbie created this “ice palace” wall finish with our Lisboa Tile Stencil, Wood Icing, and Modern Masters metallic paint. The beautiful wall finish is warmed up with the combination of a trendy sunburst mirror and distressed metallic finish cabinet.
Debbie had recently decorated her bathroom to have a more rustic look, which immediately made her stark white cabinets stand out. Her two different décor styles were clashing and she needed to do something about it. Instead of spending a fortune replacing her cabinets, she created a rustic patina pattern on the doors with Modern Masters products and custom Modello stencils. Her bathroom makeover is now complete and coordinated! For the full DIY tutorial, check out How to Stencil a Rustic Patina Pattern on Bathroom Cabinets.
