There are so many ways you can reuse a piece of furniture. One man’s (or woman’s) trash is another’s treasure! Larissa of Prodigal Pieces loves finding pieces that she calls “trashure”, including this antique vanity she found unwanted on the curb. It was in rough shape and the top was damaged by chemicals. Some would dismiss this piece as trash, but Larissa saw its potential beauty – it just needed a little paint and creativity. Let’s see how she saved this “trashure” with the help of our French Love Letters Furniture Stencil:
To tackle the first sticky challenge, she sanded the top of the furniture. Second, she used wood filler to repair the spots where some of it was damaged or missing.
She wanted to brighten up this vanity with a luscious antique white base coat. After a couple of layers of paint, she added some dimension to the intricate carvings with a contrasting green color.
Then she moved on to make this piece even more pretty with pattern! To keep the “French flair” look she was envisioning, she chose our French Love Letters Furniture Stencil to top off the vanity. The shabby chic look that this lettering stencil created c’est magnifique!
For the finishing touch she took the knobs off another old dresser that had just the right amount of bling for her new vanity makeover.
Not bad for a piece of trash, eh? See her full blog post and tutorial here. Do you have a vanity, dresser, or table that you thought was a goner, but are now having second thoughts? Give it a chance!
