Stenciling is a fast, easy, and inexpensive way to customize and update any surface in your house with paint, including walls, floors, ceilings, furniture, and fabric. Stenciling is generally done using either stencil brushes or stencil rollers. You can stencil with craft acrylic paints, latex wall paint, or our specially designed Royal Stencil Creme paints. The key to successful stencil projects is to use a “dry” brush or roller that has been offloaded to remove the excess paint that can seep under the stencil. Are you ready to try stenciling?

I had a 13inch custom size made to fit my mudroom tiles. What a transformation this stencil made! Super durable and easy to clean- it held up beautifully during the stenciling process. I used Benjamin Moore Floor and Patio paint for the base coat and stencil. Of course I primed first and sealed it all with several coats of a top coat!! Looks amazing and saved hundreds!!! 😊
I'm thrilled with the way this turned out on the floor. I lived with the ugly reddish builders' grade tile in my downstairs bathroom and entryway for 17 years because I couldn't bring myself to pay to redo a floor in a part of the house that few people see or use. I'm sorry I didn't do this sooner.
Finally came to 'dark side' and stenciled your floor! ;) Stenciling is a great way to freshen up a floor without the time or expense of remodeling. Plus you can re-stencil if you want a different pattern too!
I used this stencil to create a faux tile back splash with my new counters and it turned out beautifully! I knew the colors I wanted to use and experimented first on poster board. I decided to paint the wall first with gray paint, which became my grout. I then alternated my colors using Royal Design Studio brushes and Annie Sloan chalk paint. Offloading paint is key to success and I also highly recommend Motsenbocker's Latex Paint Remover spray to loosen paint on the stencil and then cleaning gently with a sponge. I cleaned my stencil after doing about 6 squares. The stencil was very well made and held up well. I have received many compliments and people are surprised that these aren't real tiles!
Hi Elizabeth! Our Tile Stencils make it easy to replicate real tiles (for a fraction of the cost!) and it looks like our popular Toledo Tile Stencil helped you do just that. If you would like to share any project pics, you can email email@example.com :)
The result was great. I chose to do a reverse checkerboard design using regular paint from Home Depot. You can’t rush this and don’t overload your brush. I made the checkerboard base using Frog Tape. Don’t be tempted to use cheaper brands. I used a matt clear coat from an art supply store to protect it around the sink etc. The stencils are sturdy. I soaked them and gently removed built up paint with a plastic putty knife periodically. Start your project in an inconspicuous place not the most prominent place. I wish I could add a pic!
Hi Gene! Thank you for all your helpful tips! They are spot on. :)
Stenciling works best with very little paint, and we recommend offloading after you add more paint to your brush. You can send us your photos to firstname.lastname@example.org and you can tag us on social media.
