Kim Power Style wanted to give new life to her home office, a place where she spends her time almost daily. However, this room ended up being a ‘decor catch-all’ where a miss-match of left over decor pieces came to live when they were no longer being used in the rest of the house. Now Kim has officially “taken back” her office and masterfully redecorated it to match her Modern Coastal Farmhouse style with white, wood, and pops of blue and brass.
Kim decided to install DIY board and batten to add character and charm to this little room. Once finished, she knew she wanted a little “surprise” above it to give this farmhouse board and batten a modern spin.
She says, “Wallpaper can be pretty pricey even for a relatively small space so I decided on stenciling. There are so many gorgeous patterns at Royal Design Studio and when you add the color factor, the possibilities are endless! I used the Floral Fireworks Allover Wall Stencil and Fusion Mineral Paint in Liberty Blue.”
Kim painted some areas of the flower design lighter and darker to create a watercolor look. We think this idea is so creative and gives this farmhouse room makeover the perfect splash of modern. She says, “Royal Designs Studio has some great stencil tutorial videos and instructions on their site that I would encourage you to watch if you’re thinking of trying this out. I have to say that I love the way it turned out!”
After stenciling the walls, she added sleek white sideboard and a sliding barn door for the closet. Now her home office looks beautiful yet still very functional without appearing cluttered. The result is just what she envisioned and more! This serene, but chic room makeover definitely made her home office the perfect space that inspires both productivity and creativity.
